Looking beyond the horizon

Henning Balck presents best practices from road infrastructure maintenance management at the BAW colloqium.

Hydraulic structures have been designed for a long service life since time immemorial. In this respect, a long age of a structure is not disadvantageous, but currently offers a welcome opportunity to conserve resources and avoid energy expenditures that are harmful to the climate. Today, the proper maintenance of buildings is more urgent than ever in view of a wide variety of aspects. A colloquium on this complex of topics was held by the Federal Waterways Engineering and Research Institute in Karlsruhe from 14 to 15 November 2022. The Department of Civil Engineering as well as guest speakers from Germany and abroad presented new research approaches, procedures and practical implementation examples for the preservation of structures.

Henning Balck, Managing Director at HELLER, dared to look beyond the professional horizon and presented best practices from the maintenance management of road infrastructure to the interested participants. It became apparent that there are many similarities in the maintenance of roads and waterways and that the procedures developed at HELLER are also in demand for other infrastructures.
