Use of Floating car data for the maintenance management
Current and accurate data on the trafficability of roads are essential for the planning and prioritization of maintenance measures and the safe operation of roads. In the area of Lower Saxony's state roads, the condition recording and assessment (ZEB) procedure introduced by the federal government in the early 1990s is used. The condition survey is carried out every 5 years. For maintenance planning and ensuring road safety, as well as for communication with politicians, citizens and road users, a closer-meshed recording of the road condition would be of great importance. Against this background, the Lower Saxony State Authority for Road Construction and Transport has tested a new procedure for continuous condition recording from 2021 to 2023. Vehicle data collected and evaluated from series-production vehicles of the VW Group using software from the Swedish company NIRA Dynamics AB will serve as the basis. The data was provided and validated by HELLER Ingenieurgesellschaft mbH, which has already been supporting the state administration for many years as part of the systematic maintenance management of state roads.
The Austrian Road - Rail - Transport Research Association (FSV) organizes the FSV Transport Day once a year. The latest developments in the fields of transportation and infrastructure are presented to experts and representatives from science, business, politics and administration. Steffen Knab (Nira Dynamics AB) and Henning Balck (HELLER) took advantage of this opportunity to present the project they jointly realized for the Lower Saxony state authority at the trade exhibition and as part of a keynote speech. The new data offering and the jointly developed innovative process were very well received.
A big compliment goes to the organizers for the perfect organization and the numerous interested participants for the good feedback and the interesting discussions!
