HELLER makes it possible: First certification of a road administration according to ISO 55000

In August 2017, the asset management system developed by HELLER Ingenieurgesellschaft mbH for the district of Viersen was successfully certified by the Technical Control Association in the State of Hesse (TÜV Hessen). The Office for Technical Environmental Protection and District Roads is thus the first road construction authority in Europe to use a certified maintenance management system that complies with ISO 55000.

"The aim of the district was to create a new, transparent and future-oriented solution for the maintenance of roads, bridges and cycle paths," states the head of the district roads department Christian Böker. The asset management system that was developed in cooperation with HELLER Ingenieurgesellschaft mbH and defines all relevant organizational aspects and processes, enables in combination with the hiEMS (HELLER maintenance management system) software to determine the maintenance needs, the elaboration of the maintenance focus areas and their prioritization.

"We have actively supported the implementation from the very beginning and developed a practical solution," reports Marek Skakuj, authorized signatory and consultant at HELLER. At the beginning of this year, asset management was successfully introduced."

The first certification by TÜV Hessen in August is the grand finale of the project. On 19 September 2017, the certificate was officially handed over to Dr. Andreas Coenen. In his speech, the district administrator paid particular tribute to the commitment of the project participants: "With a structured asset management, we have created a new tool for us that actively supports the maintenance of our road infrastructure. It's a great opportunity to manage our road and cycle path infrastructure even more efficiently and sustainably."
