HELLER took the opportunity to raise key concerns from the practical side of road maintenance management. These include:

  • Introduction of measurable maintenance targets for administration - analogous to the minimum qualities of ASFINAG in Austria.

  • Implementation of asset management principles in accordance with ISO 55001 in order to align investments strategically and sustainably.

  • Equipping the Fernstraßen-Bundesamt (FBA) with suitable instruments for transparent performance monitoring.

  • Active use of the existing ZEB data pool to develop effective and sustainable maintenance strategies.

  • Clear focus on strategic goals and practical solutions instead of blanket technology funding without direct application in road maintenance.

With this article, HELLER underlines the importance of data-based and strategically oriented infrastructure management for future transport policy in Germany.
