HELLER on the WCPAM2017

The World Conference on Pavement and Asset Management (WCPAM2017) took place from 12 to 16 June 2017 in Baveno, Italy. The idea of organizing a global conference on asset and pavement management was made some time ago. With this in mind, the European Pavement and Asset Management Conference (EPAM) and the International Conference on Managing Pavement Assets (ICMPA) came together to host a global event for experts from all over the world in 2017.

Professor Maurizio Crispino welcomed the participants as chairman of the WCPAM2017.

Professor Maurizio Crispino, professor at the Politecnico di Milano and chairman of the conference, was delighted at the presence of many valued experts in asset and pavement management. "We are expecting a number of lectures that present experiences, best practices and current research," he said and added: "The issues that concern us today concern the transport infrastructure of tomorrow and shape our future!"

The key note of the WCPAM was given by Dr. Thomas Linder, Supreme Building Authority of the Bavarian Ministry of the Interior, for construction and transport, and head of the PIARC Technical Committee D1 Asset Management. In his lecture entitled "Demand-oriented road infrastructure: a major challenge for today and for the future", he impressively presented the current requirements for a modern road construction management and also focused on future issues such as climate change, self-propelled cars or electric mobility. The resulting thinking impulses also led to interesting discussions in the subsequent technical sessions.

In a total of more than 200 presentations from experts from all over the world, the visitors of WCPAM2017 were able to learn about asset management strategies, PMS case studies, state of the art developments and quality assurance, conservation strategies and traffic safety.

HELLER was also an expert in maintenance management at WCPAM2017 with several employees. The total of eight lectures on research and project results showed forward-looking approaches and led to interesting professional discussions among the participants.

Overall, the WCPAM2017 was not only a perfectly organized conference at beautiful Lake Maggiore but also an event with top-class participants and interesting lectures. The event also strengthened the awareness of the importance of asset management for our economy and society. The lectures and discussions have shown that it is important to find solutions that are oriented towards the goals of the organization and not the technically producibility.

Further information on the conference can be found on the official website of WCPAM2017.
