OnKo3 workshop at GDDKiA in Katowice, Poland

After the OnKo3 online information system was implemented at the Katowice office of the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA) in fall 2018, a workshop was held for the local staff on 24 October 2018. Marek Skakuj of HELLER Ingenieurgesellschaft mbH and Jan Zieliński of Heller Consult sp. z o.o. presented the functions of OnKo3 to more than twenty participants, including employees of the office and managers from the road maintenance depots.

Since 2015, GDDKiA has been surveying the condition of roadways in accordance with the DSN regulations (Diagnostics of the Road Condition), which are based on the German guideline ZTV ZEB-StB 06. The condition survey includes measuring transverse and longitudinal evenness, sinking, skid resistance as well as evaluating surface distresses automatically. The data collected are used for planning maintenance measures on national roads, including expressways and motorways.

OnKo3 provides interactive and synchronous access to condition data. The data collected in several measurement campaigns are consolidated in a uniform manner and presented to the user in the form of thematic maps, road profiles and tables. The data are also supplemented by road and surface images. OnKo3 offers the user synchronized access to relevant information, while the traditional geographic information systems (GIS) can only display a limited amount of information simultaneously.

OnKo3 once again convinced with its diverse scope of applications. For the participants, the virtual driving on the road network and the joint display of condition data and road images were particularly helpful for road maintenance planning.
