Road Conference in Poland

On September 26th and 27th 2016, the third Road Conference of Warmian-Masurian Voivodship took place in Olsztyn, Poland. The main topics discussed were the maintenance and safety of voivodship roads, attracting altogether 120 participants of administrations, universities and building companies.

Dr. Slawomir Heller conducted a presentation on the “World Road Association PIARC and Asset Management” and informed, furthermore, about the foundation of an initiative for the promotion and dissemination of Infrastructure Asset Management. The so-called Infrastructure Asset Management Academy (InfrAMA) was initiated by the “Warsaw center of education IKKU”, the “Warsaw University of Technology, department of road and bridge construction” and the “HELLER Ingenieurgesellschaft mbH in Darmstadt”. The three partners encourage training measures and specific programs to make Infrastructure Asset Management better known.

As representative of PIARC, Dr. Heller took part in a panel discussion on the subject of “road safety improvement in Olsztyn, Poland”. The participants, including the professors Gaca (Krakow University of Technology) and Jamroz (Gda?sk University of Technology), talked especially about the advantages and disadvantages of the Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) and whether it is meeting the set requirements. However, the key figures are still to be determined in order to make a clear statement about the efficiency of the implemented system.
