VERA takes over traffic monitoring in Rheinland-Pfalz

At the beginning of 2018, the Landesbetrieb Mobilität Rheinland-Pfalz commissioned HELLER Ingenieurgesellschaft mbH to customize the VERA web application. On November 28, 2018, the first interactive user training took place in Koblenz. HELLER employees Marek Skakuj and Daniela Bruck presented the new tool for traffic monitoring to representatives of all departments in the state. The open source application was developed in 2013 for Baden-Württemberg and has now been specified and advanced for Rheinland-Pfalz.

Traffic monitoring has been in use in Rheinland-Pfalz since 2011 and has replaced manual traffic counting with automatic counting to a large extent. With the traffic monitoring application VERA, state and road maintenance depots can now manage counting points online, evaluate the collected data and create and monitor annual schedules. VERA combines these functions centrally in the intranet of the Landesbetrieb Mobilität Rheinland-Pfalz and thus replaces all single applications used so far ensuring the continuous maintenance of the register of counting points as well as an up-to-date data basis.

The training served as an exchange of experience between the commissioners, developers and users of the web application. Due to their many years of experience in planning and carrying out traffic counts, the participants made valuable suggestions as to how VERA can be further developed and even better adapted to the needs of the state and road maintenance depots. Already the current version was welcomed by the participants and is currently being tested in daily operation.
