The visit is part of a two-day exchange of German and Polish experts on new strategies for the expansion and maintenance of cycle paths. On the German side, representatives of the Hessian Ministry of Economics, Energy, Transport, Housing and Rural Areas, Hessen Mobil and the City of Science Darmstadt are taking part. The main event took place at the German Poland Institute in Darmstadt. The institute has been committed to German-Polish cooperation in various disciplines and cultural exchange for many decades. For Dr. Slawomir Heller, who organized the meeting, the great interest shown by the participants once again demonstrates the importance of cross-border professional exchange. For the colleagues at HELLER, close cooperation with their Polish colleagues has been an established practice since 2001. HELLER Ingenieurgesellschaft and the Polish company HELLER Consult have set standards in both countries in the field of digitalization and condition assessment of cycle path infrastructure.

The Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship (Polish: województwo warmińsko-mazurskie) with its capital Olsztyn (Allenstein) is one of the 16 Polish voivodeships and covers the north-eastern part of the country. The voivodeship is named after the Warmia region, which covers the north-western part of the voivodeship, and Mazury in the east and south of the voivodeship. The Masurian Lake District is also an important tourist region. The south-western part of the voivodeship is historically known as the Uplands (Prusy Górne). The expansion of the tourist infrastructure, which includes the cycle path network in particular, is currently of great importance and is supported by the EU. For this reason, the experience of the state of Hesse is of interest. The Hessian Ministry of Economics, Energy, Transport, Housing and Rural Areas has developed new standards and programs for the targeted expansion and improvement of the cycling infrastructure together with the Hesse Local Mobility Working Group and Hessen Mobil. This also includes the digital representation of the cycle path network and the assessment of the condition of cycle paths. HELLER has created the network model for this purpose and provides the condition data for the Hessian municipalities via its own online platform OnKo3.
